An Interesting Observation After Two Weeks Off

While I greatly disliked being away from Tumblr and all of my other Internet pursuits for two weeks, it did give me an interesting perspective.

When following things day-by-day through the Dashboard, it’s sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees. By having so many things to look at all at once and in different ways (such as using everybody’s Archive to catch up on posts), it makes me feel a lot better about things around here for 2012.

While I have no plans of leaving and am still generally satisfied with Tumblr, I think I’m not the only one that thought several points in 2011 could have been when this service “jumped the shark.” Perhaps worst of all these disappointments and trasgressions is seeing so many long-time Tumblrs not only “go commercial,” but do so with the most despised form of advertising ever created — the full screen-blocking ad.

Aside from that travesty, it just seemed like I was finding too much of the same old same old — too many people doing nothing but Reblog after Reblog and bringing nothing new to the table.

However, after taking an overall look at two weeks of activity regarding my own blog such as all of the new people following me, maybe I was being too hasty in my judgement. Whether it is that, good timing, or only having to block two out of the 20+ new people that followed me since I went on break (a low ratio of late I’m sad to say), it seems like I am seeing an new crop of bloggers in many subjects doing stuff in a good, original way even if they do a lot of Reblogging.

So…maybe Tumblr isn’t in total decline after all even with all of the fakers, spam accounts, and the loss of Tumblr Support being…well, supportive. Sure, nothng will be like the earliest years of Tumblr, especially those two before I first came here. However, maybe there’s some fresh life in this old girl yet to bring in more people that will show their true selves and not just what they think will get a lot of reblogs or impress thier small clique of friends that like to think they’re cutting edge but they’re not.

Well, anyway…this is what happens when I get kept off the Internet for too long now. I’ll try to keep that in check for a while…at least until I might have another stretch of off-time this coming Spring when I might be moving again.
